The Sauratown Mountains, sometimes called “the mountains away from the mountains”, are located within Stokes and Surry Counties in North Carolina. Named after the Saura, the Native American tribe that inhabited the area before the colonists settled the land in the 18th century.  While the mountain range occupies only a small portion of the county, it dominates the local scenery. The Sauras rise sharply at 800 feet to 1,200 feet above the surrounding terrain.

Farm to Feet makes the world’s best merino wool socks using an all-American recipe: US materials, US Manufacturing, and US workers. The American-sourced merino wool is grown by American sheep industry ranchers. After shearing, it is processed into clean wool top by Chargeurs Wool in Jamestown, SC. From there, the wool is spun into yarn by spinners like Kent Wool in Pickens, SC, and National Spinning in Burlington, NC. After spinning, the yarn arrives at our Sustainability-focused manufacturing facility in Mount Airy, NC, and is knit into socks. We understand that in order to fully appreciate the world’s best American-made socks, one must have outdoor places to use them in. We are a proud member of the Conservation Alliance and support their mission to fund and partner with organizations to protect wild places for their habitat and recreation values. We also work closely with numerous other organizations in support of their efforts to ensure that future generations can enjoy the outdoors.
