The Arts Place Art Market features the work of over one hundred-fifty local artists and crafts persons. The original Dan River Art Market opened in May of 1988. After major renovations, including new construction, the market re-opened in July 2017 with a new name and over 1,000 feet of space to display and sell handcrafted works of art. These include original paintings, limited edition prints, pottery, stained glass, masks, ironwork, baskets, quilts, wood carving, wooden toys, natural soaps and scents, jewelry, t-shirts, ornaments, and much more. The Market also includes a variety of North Carolina made food items, books, and music cd’s, as well as local visitor information in support of Stokes County’s primary tourism destinations, Hanging Rock State Park and the Dan River. The Market is staffed with a full-time Manager, and by the efforts of many volunteers and artists and is open 364 days each year. Artwork is consistently updated, and interested artists are encouraged to contact The Arts Place for the art submission and jury guidelines to become an Arts Place of Stokes retail artist.
