The Biggest and Best New Year's Day Celebration in North Carolina, the Hanging Rock Polar Plunge takes place each January 1 at Hanging Rock State Park as hundreds of costumed participants plunge into the chilly water of Hanging Rock State Park Lake, with several hundred guests cheering them on.

Festivities take place at the Historic Lake Bathhouse with both participants and guests enjoying soups, stews, hot dogs, hot cocoa, and DJ provided music.

The highlight of the event is the participant costume parade down to the lake, followed by a quick plunge into the lake, with proceeds supporting Hanging Rock State Park, and Arts Education Programs provided by the Stokes County Arts Council.

The plunge is open to ages 10 and up.  Ages 18 and under must have consent of parent / guardian.
