Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol To Be Performed by Once Upon a Blue Ridge Once Upon a Blue Ridge, a professional educational theatre company owned by Peter and Christina Holland of Meadows of Dan, VA, will present their 50 minute musical adaptation of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol at The Arts Place of Stokes on Saturday, December 18th at 3:30pm.

Peter and Christina have been writing, directing, and performing their original adaptations of literary classics for audiences in Virginia and the Carolinas for almost 20 years. Peter was nominated in 2008 for a Virginia Governor’s Arts Award for his one man show, Mr. Lincoln’s Office. Christina teaches Theatre at South Stokes High School in Stokes County, NC. She has been recognized as an outstanding educator numerous times. In this version of the classic one actor plays Scrooge (Peter Holland) and five actors play all the other characters in the story, including the Spirits.

Beautiful masks created by Susan Service enhance the ghost scenes. Original songs by Peter Holland, played live by him and banjo player, Bruce Burgess, lift the show into a musical theatre experience. This is a bare bones production with the emphasis on the characters and Dicken’s enduring message of Good Will to our fellow human beings. It’s sure to get you in the true Holiday spirit.

Before the show Garry and Eydie Clifton, professional librarians and big lovers of Dickens’ A Christmas Carol, will give an introduction to the show about Charles Dickens, the times he lived in, and how he created the timeless classic.

Cast members for A Christmas Carol, left to right, top to bottom, are Kimberly Boles, Django Burgess, Peter Holland, Anakin Burgess, Zinnia Burgess, and Brook Smith.
