Board Members Amanda Gordon and Ellen Peric announced the winners of the 2016 Stokes County Arts Council Art Scholarship during the student art exhibit opening reception at the Apple Gallery in Danbury on Friday, April 8th.
Winners of the 2016 Stokes Arts Scholarships are Colin T. Anderson, a senior at North Stokes High School, $500; Carson G. Bollman, a freshman at Appalachian State University (a 2015 graduate of North Stokes High School), $500; Sarah K. Guiles, a senior at South Stokes High School, $500; Erin E. Kye, a freshman at Guilford College (a 2015 graduate of West Stokes High School), $1,000; and Hailey M. Nichols, a senior at West Stokes High School, $500.
This year, the Ben T. Vernon Jr. Community Service Award was added to the list of scholarships available through the Stokes County Arts Council. Mr. Eddy McGee announced two recipients of this award: Luke Jones, a student of the Stokes Early College, who has donated many volunteer hours to the Stokes County Arts Council and to the community, $1,000; and Tara Schiphof, a student of the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, who has donated many volunteer hours to the Stokes County Arts Council and to the community, $1,000.
North Stokes Chorus, under the direction of Ms. Meredith Dowdy and South Stokes Chorus, under the direction of Mrs. Christina Holland, entertained those attending the opening reception through a wonderful program of music.
The Stokes County Arts Council congratulates all of this year’s scholarship recipients and sincerely appreciates the support from the school’s administration and faculty and the community.
