The
Stokes County Arts Council welcomes Denis Byrd to the Apple Gallery with his
exhibit of original oil and watercolor paintings.
Denis Byrd is a reenactor, landscape painter and teacher in
Greensboro, North Carolina but has family ties to Winston-Salem and
Hickory. His primary medium of choice is
painting with
Oil and Watercolor. He became interested in oil while in High School because of
his fascination with the “old masters.”
Byrd has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Studio Art from the University of
Georgia and a Masters in Art Education from Georgia State University. His work has been exhibited across the Southeast as well as the prestigious
Salmagundi Club in Greenwich Village, New York.
On display at
The Apple Gallery for the month of June, you will observe that most
of his work has some connection to history. Byrd said he is interested in the
story of a place and even when it is not obvious, history is part of the work.
Most of his recent work is exploring the history, myths and folklore of the
early settlers in North Carolina.
A Virtual opening with the artist will be held Live on StokesArts Facebook at 5:30pm on Monday, June 8. You may view the exhibit virtually on Facebook
You may also view the work in The Apple Gallery, 500 Main Street, Danbury, NC at other times. Purchases may be made online at https://squareup.com/store/StokesArts/.
