“The Return” Beatles Tribute to Perform in Stokes County
Stokes County, North Carolina will travel back to 1964 this weekend as “The Return” Beatles Tribute will perform a concert on Saturday, July 23 at
King Central Park, 302 Kirby Road in King. The performance is scheduled to begin at 7pm, with gates opening at 6pm.
The band began in 1995 in Griffin, Georgia when four friends got together just to have some fun and play their favorite Beatles songs. Now, twenty-one years later, The Return is internationally known as one of the best Beatle tribute bands in the world having performed thousands of shows, including a private performance at the Abbey Road Studios in London, England, as well as headlined the 40th anniversary celebration of the Beatles tour to Tokyo. The band strives for the highest level of authenticity in recreating the early sixties Beatles experience from the smallest detail (John Lennon’s on-stage gum chewing) to the biggest, most expensive details (using exact replicas of the instruments and gear the Beatles used).
The Return will perform two sets on July 23 as part of their visit to Stokes County. The first set will include the group wearing black suits similar to what the Beatles wore on the Ed Sullivan Show on February 9, 1964, performing songs such as “I Want to Hold Your Hand” and “Hard Day’s Night.” The second set will include the group costumed in tan Nehru jackets similar to what the Beatles wore in front of over 55,000 screaming fans at Shea Stadium in the summer of 1965 performing such songs as “Help”, “Day Tripper”, and “Twist and Shout.” The Return members include; Richard Stelling as John, Shane Landers as Paul, Michael Fulop as George, and Adam Thurston as Ringo.
Admission to The Return concert is $10 for adults, $5 for children ages 13-18, and free for children twelve and under. Attendees are encouraged to bring a blanket or chair for seating. Food concessions will be provided by several Piedmont based food trucks, with beverages available for purchase by the Stokes County Arts Council.
